McLane has a particular interest in the diagnosis and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity and has been treating infants born prematurely at Prisma HealthCare’s Bryan Neonatal Intensive Care Unit since 1985.ĭr. McLane’s areas of interest include the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachments. McLane is trained to diagnose, treat and manage diseases and trauma of the retina and vitreous. As a solo practitioner for most of those years, Dr. McLane was the first fellowship-trained retina surgeon in the Upstate to perform vitrectomy surgery for retinal detachment at St. Returning to Greenville, SC in September 1985, Dr. McLane was accepted as the first Retina Fellow in the combined retina fellowship program at Louisiana State University Medical School Department of Ophthalmology and Oschner Clinic in New Orleans, LA, completing his fellowship in 1985.

McLane completed a Flexible Internship with Greenville Hospital System and then returned to Tampa to complete his residency in ophthalmology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry with Honors from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida and entered USF College of Medicine in 1977. McLane, MD was born in Salina, Kansas and raised throughout the Midwest and Southern states.
